"NEW FACE IN TOWN" "Drop in at the Cub Bar of the MGM Grande Hotel one of these nights and feast your ears! A new young singer from Texas is appearing there, by the name of Carole Holley, and it’s the most refreshing sound that I’ve come across in quite a while.  Carole is a fine singer, with good jazz feel, possessor of a clear, pleasant voice, and is backed by an excellent trio – a  trio just like in the old days.  No electric gimmicks.  The guys get plenty of chances to stretch out and blow.  Very tasty and highly recommended!"

(A Note From Carole:  This review was years ago!  I must say in hindsight, I’m glad I didn’t know that Mr. Linder was in the audience or I would have been a nervous wreck.  I had only been singing in nightclubs for 10 weeks when I was booked into the MGM Grande hotel as a featured solo performer with my trio from Dallas.  This “new young singer” with the “clear pleasant voice” is now a 40 something singer with a 40 something voice.  The beat goes on….)

The Musicians

Carole is backed on piano and B3 organ by Mark Asche, an active performer and composer in the Twin Cities jazz, blues, rhythm and blues, and commercial music community.  Mark has performed with Dave Karr, Irv Williams, Eric Gravatte, Ed Berger, Pete Whitman, Bob Peterson, Phil Hey, Gordy Johnson, Brian Gallagher, Steve Vecchi, Shirley Witherspoon, and the Hornheads.  He is currently a member of the award winning Cedar Avenue Big Band, the Senders and the Steve Vecchi orchestra.  Mark has received numerous accolades in such publications as Midwest Jazz, Blues Review, The Twin Cities Reader, and Adweek for his performances and compositions. 
 
Filling out the trio, quartet, or quintet, Carole and Mark draw from a talented pool of Twin Cities jazz musicians.
